Daedong to Develop Semiconductor Technology
Specialized for Agricultural Robots and Autonomous Machinery
Daedong, a company transitioning into the artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics sector, will participate in the development of on-device AI semiconductors.
On May 21, Daedong announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of 'K-On-Device AI Semiconductor Technology' together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, the Korea Fabless Industry Association, and major manufacturing companies. The core objective of this agreement is for AI semiconductor demand companies, fabless companies, and related organizations to jointly develop K-On-Device AI semiconductor technology, thereby driving the advancement of the domestic semiconductor industry and securing competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.

Through this agreement, Daedong plans to actively participate in the development of on-device AI semiconductor technology to secure future product competitiveness. In future agriculture, represented by precision agriculture and smart farming, on-device AI is essential for AI-based autonomous driving, crop growth diagnostics, and autonomous operations. Therefore, the development of AI semiconductor technology and the creation of a related ecosystem are crucial. Daedong has decided to pursue the development of AI semiconductor technology specialized for agricultural robots and autonomous agricultural machinery through strategic collaboration with the system semiconductor industry, and to promote technical cooperation from the product planning stage. Through these efforts, Daedong aims to apply AI and robotics technology to all its products in the mid- to long-term, thereby strengthening its global competitiveness.
In November last year, Daedong unveiled a Level 4 on-device AI tractor capable of autonomous agricultural work, with plans for commercialization in 2026. The company is also pushing forward with the development of Level 5 agricultural machinery capable of swarm autonomous operation, aiming for completion by 2030. In addition, Daedong plans to introduce a higher-end model of its agricultural transport robot, launched last February, equipped with object recognition, tracking, and autonomous driving technology, starting in the second half of this year.
Wonyuhyun Daedong CEO stated, "On-device AI semiconductors are a critical component for the AI-based agricultural robots, autonomous agricultural machinery, and smart farming initiatives that Daedong is pursuing. We expect this agreement to serve as a milestone for securing core related technologies and building an ecosystem," adding, "Based on strategic cooperation with the government and the domestic semiconductor industry, we will contribute to the creation of an on-device AI ecosystem and achieve a major AI transformation in the agricultural industry."
