Gwangju City Council Chair Shin Sujeong Visits Goryeoin Village: "Saw Tourism Potential"

"A Symbolic Space Reflecting Gwangju's Historical Significance and Inclusiveness"

Shin Sujeong, chairman of the Gwangju City Council, recently visited Goryeoin Village to tour its historical and cultural resources, as well as observe the village community firsthand.


According to Goryeoin Village on May 21, the purpose of this visit was to recognize the village's historical significance and its potential as a tourism resource, and to seek ways to support it in the future.

Chairman Shin visited key locations such as the Moon Viktor Art Museum, Goryeo Broadcasting, Goryeoin Cultural Center, Hong Beomdo Park, and the Central Asia Theme Street. Through these visits, she experienced the lives and culture of the Goryeoin people, which reflect traces of forced migration during the Japanese colonial period and the independence movement.


Chairman Shin stated, "Goryeoin Village has the potential to become a new attraction in Gwangju," and added, "I will pay close attention and provide support so that it can develop into a tourism hub."


She also explored Central Asia cuisine and culture in the Goryeoin Village Special Street, focusing on the village's efforts to build a foundation for self-sufficiency and create jobs.


Chairman Shin emphasized, "Goryeoin Village is a symbolic space that simultaneously demonstrates Gwangju's historical significance and multicultural inclusiveness," and pledged, "The city council will work to provide institutional support."
