Nowon District Launches Junggye Global Education Center for English, Chinese, and Japanese Conversation Classes

Nowon District in Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seungrok) announced the launch of the "Junggye Global Education Center" to help residents improve their foreign language conversation skills.

The Nowon Junggye Global Education Center is a specialized foreign language institution that will officially begin operations on July 1, 2025. The center was established to nurture talents with global competencies. The existing "Native English Language Institute" has been completely revamped, and conversation classes in Chinese and Japanese have been added. All classes are taught by 100% native-speaking instructors, enhancing both practicality and immersion.

The center offers customized programs for a wide range of age groups, including adults, elementary school students, and preschool children. In particular, a Saturday class for working adults has been prepared to accommodate those who find it difficult to attend on weekdays.

Classes will begin on July 1, 2025. The program will be conducted in two sessions from July 1 to December 20, 2025. The first session runs from July 1 to September 20, and the second session from September 23 to December 20. Students who maintain an attendance rate of 70% or higher can continue into the second session. The tuition fee is 50,000 won per session for weekday classes and 25,000 won for weekend classes. Textbook fees are not included.

Applications can be submitted online through the Nowon Lifelong Education Portal from 9:00 a.m. on May 26 to 6:00 p.m. on June 4, 2025. Enrollment will be determined by lottery, and results will be announced on the portal on June 5. Applicants not selected may register as waitlisted candidates. However, for English classes, students will be assigned to classes based on the results of a level test conducted to assess their proficiency. The level test results will be used not only for class placement but also for pre- and post-learning management tailored to each student, enabling more systematic and personalized education.

Since 2008, the district has operated a native speaker video learning program for students from third grade in elementary school to adults. The program runs for two months per session, with a total of six sessions annually, and classes are held two or three times per week. For students from third grade in elementary school to third grade in middle school, the district subsidizes 50% of the tuition fee. For students from low-income families or children of single parents as defined by law, the district covers the full tuition. The district also supports public education by providing a weekly video English class during regular school hours for fourth-grade elementary students, with all costs fully covered by the district.

Oh Seungrok, Mayor of Nowon District, stated, "We have newly renovated the Junggye Global Education Center so that residents can access high-quality foreign language classes close to home without having to go abroad. I hope that those who have hesitated to start learning a foreign language will take this opportunity to take their first step in a comfortable environment."
