Promoting Domestic Travel and Revitalizing Local Economies
Encouraging Visits to Areas Affected by Wildfires and the Airplane Disaster
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on May 21 that, together with the Korea Tourism Organization, it will launch the "2025 Korea Summer Accommodation Sale Festa" to encourage domestic travel ahead of the summer vacation season and to revitalize local economies.
Starting from May 28, a total of 400,000 accommodation discount vouchers will be distributed. The vouchers will be divided into three types according to the target regions and purposes. These include the "Regional Special Edition" in collaboration with 13 metropolitan and provincial governments, the "Main Edition" targeting accommodation facilities outside the Seoul metropolitan area, and the "Special Disaster Area Edition" for regions affected by wildfires and the 12·29 airplane disaster.
The "Regional Special Edition" vouchers will be the first to be distributed, from May 28 to May 30. Guests who book accommodation products worth 70,000 won or more at facilities in the 13 metropolitan and provincial areas?Gangwon, Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, Busan, Ulsan, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Jeju, Chungnam, and Chungbuk?will receive a 50,000 won discount.
The distribution of the "Main Edition" vouchers will follow, running from June 2 to July 17, and will target accommodation facilities in non-metropolitan areas (excluding Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon). Guests who book accommodation products worth 70,000 won or more will receive a 30,000 won discount, while those booking products between 20,000 won and less than 70,000 won will receive a 20,000 won voucher.
The "Special Disaster Area Edition" vouchers are intended as special support for regions recently devastated by wildfires and those affected by the 12·29 airplane disaster. From June 18 to July 17, the program will cover 10 areas?Sancheong, Hadong, Andong, Yeongdeok, Yeongyang, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Ulju, Muan, and Gwangju (Metropolitan)?and will offer higher discounts to help revive the local economy and boost domestic demand. A total of 100,000 vouchers will be distributed, offering a 50,000 won discount for bookings of 70,000 won or more, and a 30,000 won discount for bookings under 70,000 won at accommodation facilities in these areas.
The accommodation discount vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, one per person, through participating online travel agency channels starting at 10:00 a.m. on May 28. Issuance will end once all available vouchers have been distributed. After receiving a voucher, users must complete their reservation and payment within the validity period, which runs from 10:00 a.m. each day to 7:00 a.m. the following day. If the voucher is not used within the validity period due to reservation cancellation or other reasons, it will be automatically voided. However, users who did not use their voucher may reapply for a new one starting at 10:00 a.m. the next day.
This "Accommodation Sale Festa" features three types of vouchers, each with different usage periods. The "Regional Special Edition" and "Main Edition" vouchers can be used for accommodation check-ins from June 5 to July 17, while the "Special Disaster Area Edition" vouchers can be used for check-ins from June 18 to July 31. Eligible facilities include hotels, condominiums, resorts, and pensions in Korea. Hourly rentals and unregistered facilities are excluded from the discount program.
Users who participated in the Accommodation Sale Festa held in February and March may also participate in this event. However, those who use the "Regional Special Edition" voucher this time will not be able to receive the "Main Edition" or "Special Disaster Area Edition" vouchers concurrently.
