Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced on the 21st that it received the 'Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award' at the 60th Inventors' Day ceremony, held on the 19th and hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association. This marks the first time a company in the insurance industry has received this award.

The Inventors' Day ceremony is an event that recognizes individuals who have contributed to the promotion of invention in South Korea, commemorating May 19, 1441, the date when the world's first rain gauge was invented.

Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance was recognized for its efforts in strengthening intellectual property rights through dedicated projects, as well as for inventing new technologies closely related to public safety and health, thereby contributing to the establishment of a social safety net.

To improve employees' awareness of intellectual property (IP), Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance organized the 'Patent Idea Contest,' awarded outstanding ideas, and held insight lectures as part of the 'IP Festival.' The company also published the in-house patent magazine 'YEP! (Your Extraordinary Patent·YEP)' to deliver patent news in an engaging way, taking the lead in raising awareness of intellectual property rights.

Last year, the company established an in-house patent management system, creating an environment where employees can freely submit ideas at any time. Know-how and data accumulated over many years have been structured into a database for systematic management.

As a result, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance ranked first among insurance companies in both the number of patent applications and registrations last year. The company is also working to strengthen its core business competitiveness based on patents such as 'insurance underwriting automation' and 'insurance fraud detection.'

Jongju Kim, Patent Attorney in the Legal Support Team at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, stated, "We have been searching for ways to make intellectual property rights more accessible and convenient for employees in the insurance industry, where such concepts are relatively unfamiliar. These efforts have led to the meaningful result of receiving the 'Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Award.' Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our core business competitiveness based on intellectual property rights and make ongoing efforts to secure overseas patents in order to enhance our presence in the global market."
