Discussion of Joint Participation in the 2nd K-MEX
and Cooperation for the Jecheon International Korean Medicine Natural Products Industry Expo
The 'Korean Medicine Industry Mutual Development Council', which consists of five local governments nationwide (Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul, Jecheon-si in North Chungcheong Province, Sancheong-gun in South Gyeongsang Province, Jung-gu in Daegu, and Yeongcheon-si in North Gyeongsang Province), held its '2025 First Half Regular General Meeting' on May 19, with more than 50 participants including heads of local governments and representatives from related organizations.
The meeting was attended by Lee Pilhyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu; Kim Changgyu, Mayor of Jecheon; Ryu Gyuhwa, Mayor of Jung-gu, Daegu; Choi Gimum, Mayor of Yeongcheon; and Oh Yunhwan, Director of Anti-Aging Tourism in Sancheong-gun. Key figures from related organizations such as the Seoul Association of Korean Medicine, Seoul Yakryeongsi Association, Jecheon Korean Medicine Natural Products Industry Promotion Foundation, Yakryeongsi Preservation Committee, and Yeongcheon Korean Medicine Industry Development Council were also present.
On this day, Park Sungwoo, President of the Seoul Association of Korean Medicine, gave a brief briefing on the latest trends in the Korean medicine industry and future policy directions. The council plans to participate in the '2nd K-MEX (Korean Medicine and Integrative Medicine International Industry Expo)', which will be held at COEX in Seoul on June 22, by operating a joint promotional booth and holding an academic seminar together.
In addition, to ensure the successful hosting of the 'Jecheon International Korean Medicine Natural Products Industry Expo' to be held on September 20, the council signed a memorandum of understanding on expo promotion and attracting visitors, promising to strengthen cooperation among participating local governments.
Lee Pilhyung, who was reappointed as the second president of the council, stated, "The council will actively promote policy proposals and joint projects for the development of the Korean medicine industry," and added, "We will also strive to widely publicize the value and excellence of the Korean medicine industry to the public."
Since its official launch at the inaugural general meeting in April 2024, the Korean Medicine Industry Mutual Development Council has promoted various exchanges and mutual growth projects, including mutual visits to regional Korean medicine festivals, joint sales booths, and donations for wildfire damage in Sancheong-gun. Going forward, the council plans to expand the scope of cooperation through joint participation in expos, research on the Korean medicine industry, overseas benchmarking visits, and the discovery of new collaborative projects.
