Gwangjin District Provides Cooling Supplies to Heat-Vulnerable Low-Income Households Fan Delivery Ceremony

Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced that it will provide cooling supplies for vulnerable groups in the area ahead of the full onset of summer.

As higher-than-average temperatures and an early heat wave are forecast for this summer, the district has moved quickly to support neighbors who are vulnerable to the heat, such as the elderly and those who have difficulty obtaining cooling devices, so that they can spend the summer safely and comfortably.

Of the total 310 fans worth 15 million won to be provided this time, 150 units were prepared with the support of Konkuk University Hospital (Director Yoo Gwangha). On May 19, a Fan Delivery Ceremony was held at the Gwangjin District Office for the fan sponsorship by Konkuk University Hospital. The ceremony was attended by Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, Yoo Gwangha, Director of Konkuk University Hospital, and other related officials, who reaffirmed the meaning of sharing within the local community.

The fans to be provided will be distributed sequentially to heat-vulnerable households through each neighborhood community center.

In addition, the district is also offsetting summer cooling costs for low-income households through the 'Energy-Vulnerable Public Utility Fee Support Project' to reduce their financial burden. The district is also expanding the number of phone calls and visits to 2 to 3 times a week for heat-vulnerable groups, such as elderly people living alone, by utilizing community welfare assistants and other personnel for welfare and health check-ins.

Furthermore, the district is operating cooling centers so that elderly residents vulnerable to heat waves can escape the heat at any time.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, said, "I would like to thank Konkuk University Hospital for providing essential support to residents who are struggling with rising temperatures every year," and added, "We will continue to closely look after our neighbors in need and provide welfare administration that people can truly feel."
