Leading the Digital Transformation of Gyeongnam's National Industrial Complexes"
Since its founding in 1946, Gyeongnam University has fostered "creative and convergent local talent" who will lead regional development on the global stage, under its founding philosophy of "Truth, Freedom, and Creativity." On May 20, the university celebrated its 79th anniversary.
Park Jaegyu, president of Gyeongnam University, is giving a congratulatory speech for the school's anniversary.
Gyeongnam University has produced over 160,000 alumni in the fields of politics, economics, society, and culture. The university has also successfully carried out major national projects, including the "2025 Gyeongsangnam-do Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) Project," organized by the Ministry of Education and Gyeongsangnam-do, proudly establishing itself as a leading regional private university.
In response to the era of artificial intelligence, the university has set its overall direction to specialize in software and smart manufacturing. It is actively participating in the digital transformation of major national industrial complexes in the Gyeongnam region. With a spirit of continuous innovation and challenge for the future, the university is dedicating all its capabilities to being selected for the "Glocal University 30 Project" in the second half of this year.
At the "79th Anniversary Ceremony," held at 11 a.m. in the main building's fourth-floor conference room, President Park Jaegyu stated, "Gyeongnam University has overcome numerous challenges faced by universities and has grown into a central institution of higher education in Korea, producing 160,000 outstanding graduates." He added, "Over the past year, we have also successfully carried out major national projects and received top-level evaluations nationwide in the fields of industry-academia cooperation and university education innovation."
He continued, "On this meaningful day, I deeply thank all faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are with us, as well as parents and the local community who trust and support the university." He emphasized, "Going forward, we will continue to grow together with the region and leap forward as a prestigious and innovative regional university, leading the digital transformation of major national industrial complexes in Gyeongnam, including the machinery and defense industries."
The ceremony was attended by President Park Jaegyu and long-serving faculty and staff. Awards were presented to those with 30, 20, and 10 years of service, and a government award presentation was also held.
A total of 44 long-service awardees were recognized: for 30 years of service, Jo Jeongrae, director of Hanma Dormitory, and three others; for 20 years of service, Professor Hong Jeonghyo of the Department of Business Administration (Vice President for Academic Affairs) and 18 others; and for 10 years of service, Professor Yoo Youngjae of the Department of Digital Performing Arts and 20 others received awards. In addition, Professor Eom Taewan of the Department of Social Welfare received a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education.
