On the afternoon of May 20, the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education held the "Peaceful Unification Story Festival" at the Gongju Art Center Goma to enhance students' sensitivity to peace and strengthen their democratic citizenship skills in preparation for peaceful unification.
This event was held in conjunction with the 13th Unification Education Week (May 19 to 25), and featured participant-centered cultural programs such as a themed performance and an interactive talk concert focused on peaceful unification.
The planned performance included a variety of cultural acts, such as a show by Narin, an a cappella group composed of Chungnam National University alumni, who sang about peace in harmonious voices.
The talk concert featured director Seok Beomjin, a local student with a North Korean background who debuted with the feature film "Rimsi Gyowon," and writer Jeong Jia, author of works such as "Father's Liberation Diary" and "Im Jongguk, The History of Pro-Japanese Collaboration Must Be Remembered." Together, they shared diverse perspectives on peace and unification.
During the talk concert, director Seok Beomjin drew attention by sharing his personal experiences of defecting from North Korea and his journey of exploring and considering a career as a film director, all in terms that resonated with the students.
Writer Jeong Jia, who shared vivid anecdotes about her childhood and life as an author, spoke to the next generation?those who will play a leading role in building a peaceful society and preparing for unification?about the value of literature.
Superintendent Kim Jicheol emphasized, "The Chungnam Office of Education will do its utmost, together with the educational community, to ensure that students who will lead peaceful unification understand the values of harmony and coexistence and grow into democratic citizens committed to peaceful unification."
