Gwangmyeong to Host Special Lectures on "Citizen Education for Living as a Healthy Citizen"

First Lecture on "Everyday Changes for Mature Democratic Citizens" to Be Held on June 9

The Gwangmyeong Lifelong Learning Center in Gyeonggi Province will host a series of special lectures on "Citizen Education for Living as a Healthy Citizen" from next month through November.

The lectures will cover a range of topics and participatory programs centered on the contemporary values and attitudes that citizens should possess, such as peace, climate, and human rights. The program will be held once a month for a total of six sessions from June to November.

The first lecture will take place on June 9 at the auditorium of the Gwangmyeong Lifelong Learning Center. Kim Bongjung, a professor in the Department of History at Chonnam National University, will discuss "Everyday Changes for Mature Democratic Citizens: The Case of the United States," exploring practical ways to implement democracy in daily life.

Those wishing to participate can register through the Gwangmyeong Lifelong Learning integrated platform "Gwangmyeong e-ji" by June 8. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Learning Cooperation Team at the Lifelong Learning Center.

The second lecture will be held on July 16, with Lee Gukwoon, a professor in the School of Law at Handong Global University, presenting "The Constitution: Discovering the Power of Citizens." The third lecture is scheduled for August 6, with Cho Hyoje, an honorary professor at Sungkonghoe University, discussing "Climate Crisis and Human Rights: The Path of Green Democratic Citizens."

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "A healthy civil society begins with the participation of awakened citizens," and added, "I hope this special lecture series serves as an opportunity for each citizen to grow into an agent of creating a better society."
