Korail and Cultural Heritage Administration Join Hands to Restore Historical Significance of Old Seoul Station

Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) and the Cultural Heritage Administration have joined forces to restore the historical significance of the old Seoul Station through its restoration.


On May 20, Korail announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Cultural Heritage Administration at its Daejeon headquarters regarding this initiative.

The agreement was established to enhance the value of the old Seoul Station, which was built in 1925, and to restore its function as a railway heritage site. Approximately 30 people attended the signing ceremony, including Han Moonhee, President of Korail, and Choi Eungcheon, Commissioner of the Cultural Heritage Administration.


Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly promote the restoration and preservation of the original structure of Seoul Station, improve the heritage environment by connecting the station, plaza, and railway spaces, explore ways to utilize Seoul Station as a cultural heritage site, and hold commemorative events for its 100th anniversary.


In addition, they will jointly conduct research services to develop management and utilization plans for the old Seoul Station in the future.


Han Moonhee, President of Korail, stated, "The old Seoul Station is a representative cultural heritage symbolizing the history of railways in Korea. By cooperating with the Cultural Heritage Administration, we will strive to widely promote the value of railway culture and restore Seoul Station as a beloved space for the public."
