Gongju City in South Chungcheong Province will support the healthy diets of local seniors and promote the consumption of local agricultural products by providing "Gongju Rice" for meals at senior centers in the area.
On May 20, Gongju City announced that, starting in May, it will implement a policy to supply high-quality Gongju Rice, grown and produced locally, to 438 senior centers in the city, replacing government-supplied rice.
Until now, senior centers had received government-supplied rice. However, with this policy shift, the city can now provide seniors with fresher and higher-quality ingredients. This is expected to not only improve the quality of meals but also contribute to enhancing the health of the elderly.
In particular, this policy goes beyond a simple change of ingredients. It also holds significant meaning for expanding the consumption of local agricultural products and securing stable sales channels for farmers in the Gongju area. By supplying Gongju Rice, the city aims to improve the local agricultural distribution structure and contribute to revitalizing the virtuous cycle of the local economy.
Mayor Choi Woncheol stated, "By using high-quality Gongju Rice for meals at senior centers, we expect positive effects not only on the health of our seniors but also on increasing the income of local farmers." He added, "We will continue to do our best to make Gongju a city where seniors can live even happier and more comfortably."
