Adoption of Resolution Urging Tobacco Manufacturers to Fulfill Social Responsibilities
Gumi City Council in Gyeongbuk concluded its 287th extraordinary session, which lasted for six days, with the second plenary meeting on May 19, 2025.
During this session, a total of 22 agenda items were handled, including 18 ordinance bills?11 of which were proposed by council members?and two public property management plans.
Council member Kim Youngtae, in a five-minute free speech, pointed out issues regarding the management of personal mobility devices (PM) in Gumi City and urged the executive branch to improve systems to ensure safety.
In a municipal inquiry, council member Lee Sangho raised concerns that the 42 million won allowance for senior center presidents, which was approved during the review of the first supplementary budget for 2024, has not yet been paid. Lee Sangho demanded that Mayor Kim Jangho disclose to the public the reasons for the non-payment.
Additionally, a resolution urging tobacco manufacturers to fulfill their social responsibilities, proposed by council member Kim Minseong, was adopted at the plenary session. The resolution calls on the government and relevant agencies to strengthen anti-smoking policies and to take proactive measures to protect citizens' health rights.
Chairman Park Kyosang stated, "During this extraordinary session, we worked to improve citizens' welfare through the review of ordinances and on-site visits," and added, "In the upcoming regular session's administrative audit, we will thoroughly examine the appropriateness of policy and budget execution to enhance the transparency and efficiency of municipal administration."
