Over 40 Volunteers Participate
First Step Toward Preventing Summer Flooding
Masanhappogu District in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted an intensive rainwater drain cleaning campaign in the Woryeong-dong Seoro area to prevent flooding damage ahead of the full rainy season.
The activity, which took place on May 19, focused on areas vulnerable to flooding. Over 40 participants, including Masanhappogu District Chief Park Dongjin, Changwon Volunteer Center Director Jeong Seoin, volunteers, public workers, and related officials, as well as one rainwater drain dredging vehicle from the Sewer Center, carried out intensive cleaning operations.
In particular, 25 volunteers actively participated in the community environmental cleanup, joining forces from various civic groups: Masan Volunteer Camp (7 members), K-Water Technology employees (10 members), and the Happy Dream Leaders Association (8 members).
Participants removed sediment, trash, and cigarette butts accumulated inside and around the rainwater drains, focusing on ensuring smooth water flow. At the same time, they conducted a campaign to raise awareness among residents about the importance of rainwater drain maintenance.
Park Dongjin, the District Chief, stated, "Rainwater drains may be small, but they play a crucial role in preventing flood damage. Through ongoing cleaning activities and resident participation, we will work to create a safe city even during heavy summer rains."
