Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province successfully concluded the "5th Jeonju Garden Industry Expo" (hereinafter referred to as the Expo), held from May 9 to May 13, breaking previous records in both sales and scale.

According to the city on May 20, the Expo, which was held to establish itself as a platform for the garden industry in Korea, saw participation from 162 companies and achieved a remarkable sales record of 2.8 billion KRW.

The city evaluated that the Expo attracted significant nationwide attention, with approximately 337,000 visitors attending during the event period. In particular, the Expo differentiated itself from previous years by not only facilitating B2C and B2B transactions, but also activating B2G transactions through on-site industrial tours for local government officials and others.

In fact, the Expo achieved a total sales record of 2.8 billion KRW, including 2,358 on-site consultations, contracts worth 1.5 billion KRW, and sales of 1.3 billion KRW, marking its best performance to date. Compared to the 1.4 billion KRW in sales at the 3rd Garden Expo, when official tallies began, this year’s figure is double. It also represents an increase of more than 1 billion KRW compared to last year’s Expo, which recorded 1.7 billion KRW in sales.

This growth in sales is attributed to the continuous increase in participating companies and the Expo’s growing nationwide recognition each year. The number of participating companies has steadily risen, from 39 at the 1st Expo in 2021, to 80 at the 2nd, 103 at the 3rd, 138 at the 4th, and 162 at this year’s 5th Expo.

Additionally, about 20,000 people took part in 13 different garden culture programs, including guided garden tours, the Jeongdamdadam talk show, and Happy Gardening with New York Botanical Garden gardener Sage Kim, helping to lead not only the garden industry but also the culture of gardening.

Furthermore, the Expo featured two professional gardens, three citizen-designed gardens, ten specialized gardens by mid-sized companies, and ten gardens created by participating companies. These spaces provided visitors with more than just a viewing experience, allowing them to appreciate the cultural and artistic value of gardens, which contributed significantly to the Expo’s achievements.

Other attractions included family gardens created by twenty families at the Expo site, a special exhibition of this year’s garden plants sponsored by the Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Agency, a mobile companion plant clinic, and a photography contest held in collaboration with the Jeonju branch of the Korea Photographers Association. These diverse contents helped to promote the beauty of Jeonju’s gardens and attracted great interest and participation from citizens.

The city believes that, with this year’s Expo achieving the highest sales performance ever and ending successfully, Jeonju can further solidify its position as a platform for the garden industry in Korea.

Lee Youngseop, Director of the City’s Resource Circulation and Greenery Bureau, stated, "This year’s Expo has significantly heightened national interest in Jeonju’s garden industry, and by successfully attracting the 2026 Korea Garden Industry Expo to Jeonju, we aim to establish the city as the hub of the Korean garden industry."
