Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has launched preemptive safety inspections of farmland and mountain land conversion permit sites to proactively respond to natural disasters such as heavy rainfall and typhoons during the summer season.
Yeongju City will conduct on-site inspections at a total of 93 locations over approximately one month, until June 13.

This inspection was arranged as a preventive measure, given forecasts that summer precipitation will be similar to or slightly higher than in previous years, and with the possibility of localized heavy downpours and prolonged monsoon periods being raised.
The inspection targets include 30 large-scale farmland conversion sites with an area of 10,000 cubic meters or more, 16 large-scale mountain land conversion sites, and 47 farmland conversion sites with an average slope of 15% or higher that are considered to have unfavorable farming conditions. All of these areas are at high risk of safety accidents during heavy rainfall.
The city has organized three inspection teams, including the head of the Farmland and Forestry Team, to conduct direct on-site inspections. The teams will focus on structural safety, including ground subsidence, soil runoff, retaining wall cracks, and drainage facility issues. They will also inspect for damage to foundations and supports, malfunctions in binding equipment, and facilities that could affect neighboring farmland and rural living environments.
If the inspection results reveal insufficient damage prevention measures, the city will require repairs or reinforcements. If these measures are not implemented and an accident occurs, administrative actions such as restoration to the original state will be taken.
A city official stated, "The summer season is a time of heightened accident risk at farmland and mountain land conversion sites. We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of citizens by identifying risk factors in advance and ensuring thorough follow-up measures."
