The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 20 that it held a trilateral Secretariat Management Board meeting with the U.S. Department of State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Washington, D.C., United States, on May 19 (local time).

The meeting was attended by Wonwoo Lee, Director of the North America Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Kevin Kim, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State; and Akihiro Okouchi, Director of the Asia and Oceania Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The three countries discussed major regional challenges they commonly face, reviewed the current implementation status of recent trilateral cooperation projects, and explored ways to further develop these initiatives. They also discussed measures to expand the role of the Secretariat in order to make trilateral cooperation more action-oriented and substantive."
South Korea, the United States, and Japan launched the Secretariat in November last year to advance trilateral cooperation.
