This lecture was organized as part of the "Eight-Month Ethiopian Journey for Rural Children" project currently being promoted at Geumban Elementary School. Professor Hamdi, an Ethiopian native who serves as a faculty member in the Department of Intelligent Computing at Dong-Eui University and as a consulting committee member at the Education Donation Hub Support Center, participated as the lecturer. He delivered a lecture on Ethiopian culture tailored to the students' level of understanding.
Under the theme "Welcome to Ethiopia," the program was offered to all students and included participatory activities on topics such as Ethiopian geography and language, food and traditional culinary culture, and the diversity of ethnicities and cultures. In particular, a discussion session on cultural differences helped students broaden their sensitivity as global citizens and deepen their understanding of cultural diversity.
Geumban Elementary School plans to continue a variety of on-campus research activities on the theme of Ethiopia over the next eight months. In July, the Ethiopian ambassador to Korea is scheduled to visit the school and participate in a cultural exchange program.
Additionally, in November, students will take part in an eight-night, eleven-day program in Ethiopia, which will include career and vocational exploration, cultural experiences, and exchange activities with local schools.
Lee Sanggil, Director of the Gyeongsang Region Education Donation Hub Support Center, stated, "This special lecture was a meaningful opportunity for students at a small rural school to broaden their horizons toward the world and naturally acquire respect and understanding for other cultures. Moving forward, the Gyeongsang Region Education Donation Hub Support Center will continue to expand customized programs linked to regional characteristics so that students can experience a variety of cultures and career paths."
Since its establishment in 2023 by designation of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, the National Pukyong University Gyeongsang Region Education Donation Hub Support Center has been planning and operating a variety of customized education donation programs for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students in the Gyeongsang region. Through collaboration with local institutions, businesses, and individuals, the center is building an education donation ecosystem that connects experiential career and character education, and is taking the lead in expanding the public education infrastructure for nurturing future talent.
