Developed at North Gyeongsang's First Domestic Wheat Milling Facility
Local Bakery Discount Events Linked to the Asian Athletics Championships
'Gumimilgari (T55, Grade 1)', a flour exclusively for bread developed for the first time in North Gyeongsang Province, will be officially launched on May 27 at a wheat milling factory specializing in domestic wheat, located in Dogae-myeon, Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.
This product follows the 'T55' standard, benchmarking the French flour grading system for baking. It is made by blending two varieties of domestic wheat in an optimal ratio, and is evaluated as being comparable to French flour in terms of flavor and texture.
'Gumimilgari' is a joint brand created by the city of Gumi, local agricultural organizations, and small business owners. Wheat produced by local farms is processed at milling facilities in Gumi and supplied to the market. The brand is based on the philosophy of 'Slow Food, Gumi, Green', symbolized by a turtle-shaped logo.
The product will be available from June 2 at the Geumosan Local Food Direct Store and at Dogae and Haepyeong Hanaro Mart, priced at 4,500 KRW per 1kg. The city plans to gradually expand its distribution network in the future.
◆ Safe Food... Revitalizing the Local Economy
Gumimilgari is centered on four core values: safety, fresh distribution, environmental protection, and revitalization of the local economy. The use of pesticides and preservatives is strictly limited during domestic production, and chemical processing is minimized during storage and transportation, prioritizing consumer safety above all else.
Compared to imported wheat, the shorter transportation distance ensures higher freshness. Its low gluten content makes it easy to digest, and it is characterized by a savory yet mild flavor. These advantages particularly appeal to health-conscious consumers and families with young children.
In addition, local farms reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides when cultivating wheat, which has a positive impact on preserving the soil ecosystem. The city aims to contribute to improving the food self-sufficiency rate and building a sustainable agricultural foundation through Gumimilgari.
◆ Discount Event at 9 Local Bakeries... Promotional Activities for Visitors
To celebrate the product launch, the city of Gumi will hold a Gumimilgari 100% bread discount event at nine local bakeries from May 27 to May 31. During the event, the bakeries will sell bread at a 20% discount, and promotional activities for local agricultural products will be conducted for citizens and visitors attending the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.
The participating bakeries are: Choi Kwonsu Bakery (192 Geumosan-ro), Chakan Bread House (95 Shinbi-ro), Cake House Mille (4 Sangsadong-ro 24-gil), Bread Story (133 Munjang-ro), Seo Jeonggwang Confectionery (257 Deulseong-ro), Bread Sori (9 Wonnam-ro), Oberon Confectionery (6 Shinbi-ro), Bread Plus Cake Sarang (16 Daebaek Shopping Center, 540 Okgyedong), and Beonggeulda (108 Songjeong-daero), totaling nine locations.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Gumimilgari is more than just a local agricultural product; it is a new green specialty of Gumi, preparing for a major transformation in food production. I hope that healthy food and sustainable agriculture will grow together through the choices of our citizens."
