Yangpyeong County Accelerates Blueprint for a “Healthy City”
Completion of Shinwon Water Purification Plant Expands Clean Water Supply
Population Growth Demonstrates a “Foundation for Health”
Over 350 Certified Eco-Friendly Farms Supply Ingredients Across the County
Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has presented a concrete blueprint for realizing a “Healthy City Yangpyeong,” accelerating policy implementation in various areas such as expanding tap water supply, increasing public sewage treatment facilities, and promoting eco-friendly agriculture.
According to Yangpyeong County on May 19, the county’s population has steadily increased from about 120,000 in 2022 to approximately 128,200 as of 2025. The county attributes this positive result to its pristine natural environment, clean tap water, and eco-friendly agricultural products, all of which contribute to healthy living conditions.
In particular, the county is set to complete the Shinwon Water Purification Plant in early June.
The Shinwon Water Purification Plant will produce tap water through a standard purification process and, after water quality inspections, is scheduled to begin supplying water in early June. This is expected to enhance both trust in local water and high-quality management standards.
This new purification plant is designed to stably supply up to 11,000 tons of tap water per day. It aims to provide safe and reliable tap water through water quality testing across 60 categories. As a key infrastructure project that will overhaul the county’s entire water supply system, it is expected to contribute to building residents’ trust.
Along with water quality improvements, the county plans to invest 120 billion KRW by 2027 to build and expand public sewage treatment facilities. Through this, Yangpyeong County aims to increase sewage treatment capacity, improve river water quality, reduce odors, and enhance living conditions, ultimately improving residents’ quality of life.
Additionally, Yangpyeong County is revitalizing the local economy by transforming agricultural landscapes into tourism resources. The “Future Resources Landscape Complex,” established in 2023, serves as a hub for producing and distributing high-quality seeds through eco-friendly agricultural exhibition fields and seed production fields. Cultural events such as the “Yangpyeong Wheat Festival” are also held, presenting a model for the convergence of agriculture and culture.
In line with its reputation as a special zone for eco-friendly agriculture, Yangpyeong County is implementing more than ten customized support programs for certified eco-friendly farms, including support for expanding eco-friendly certification (inspection fees) and providing agricultural production materials to certified farms. Currently, the county operates about 1,650 certified eco-friendly farms, accounting for approximately 28% of all farms. The eco-friendly agricultural products they produce are supplied to local healthy restaurants (18 locations), longevity restaurants (4 locations), and exemplary restaurants (35 locations), contributing to the realization of healthy dietary practices.

In addition, the county is steadily pursuing various eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural policies, such as promoting smart farms, fostering young farmers, and marketing the integrated “Mulmalgeun Yangpyeong” brand.
Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, “Yangpyeong County will continue to organically connect its pristine natural environment, advanced water treatment technologies, and various programs to promote residents’ health, focusing all efforts on creating a community where everyone can live safely and healthily for a long time.” He added, “Recognizing that the lives of our residents are the future of our county, we will do our utmost to create a healthy and pleasant environment.”
