The city of Miryang, Gyeongnam announced on May 19 that it will hold the "2025 National Grand Unity Arirang, Miryang Arirang Pungnyu Hanmadang" performance, marking the grand opening of the 67th Miryang Arirang Festival, a premier cultural tourism festival in South Korea. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. on May 22 at the Miryang River Odyssey Outdoor Stage.
This opening performance, hosted by Gyeongnam Shinmun, will blend the authenticity of Miryang Arirang with a modern sensibility, creating a platform for intergenerational harmony.
The event will be hosted by broadcaster Kim Malsuk. As a pre-show, the Gamnae Gaejul Tug-of-War Preservation Association and the Miryang Arang Gogo Janggu will take the stage.
The first part, under the subtitle "Miryang Arirang Heung," will feature performances by the band Uju, the traditional music and dance troupe Poong, and Miryang's honorary ambassador Park Taehui. They will present a humorous music and dance play depicting the scenes of Miryang’s market day, promising to deeply move the audience.
The second part, titled "Miryang Arirang Pungnyu Hanmadang," will continue with performances by the fusion Korean music group Yeon and Shin Seungtae, a former winner of "Current King of Singers 2." Their appearances are expected to further energize the show.
For the finale, all performers will join together on stage to sing Miryang Arirang, bringing the performance to a grand conclusion.
Kim Kyungran, head of the Tourism Promotion Division, said, "We hope this event will become a place of grand unity where all visitors come together as one through Arirang, and it will be a meaningful time to widely promote Miryang’s culture and traditions."
