In anticipation of the 21st Presidential Election on June 3, 2025, Gwangju City is collaborating with small and youth startup companies to ensure the voting rights of workers. They have pledged to create a work environment that encourages voting participation, with the goals of realizing a fair election and achieving a voter turnout rate of 92.5% in Gwangju.

On May 19, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Gijeong) held the "21st Presidential Election Small and Youth Startup Companies Voting Participation Promise" event with representatives of resident companies at I-PLEX in Dongmyeong-dong, Dong-gu.

This meeting follows a joint action pledge made on May 13 with representatives from the local business community to guarantee workers’ voting rights, marking the second such gathering with local company leaders. The event was attended by Mayor Kang Gijeong, as well as representatives from six small and medium-sized enterprises based in I-PLEX?Cybertech, Dagong Solution, Sunny Factory, Imil, Riva Lab, and Design Malgeum?and nine startup companies including JS Biocompany, Mindspace, One International, Scoop, Millie House, Nova Link, Lian Soft, Tubicon, and Kinder.

The participants reached a consensus on the need to create a work environment that enables workers to fully exercise their voting rights, whether during early voting (May 29-30) or on the main voting day (June 3), without any disadvantage.

Under the principle of "respect for workers' exercise of sovereignty," they resolved to actively guarantee workers' voting rights, foster an atmosphere that allows free participation in both early and main voting, comply with the Public Official Election Act and related laws, and contribute to realizing the values of democracy and advancing the community through voting participation.

Mayor Kang stated, "I am grateful that small and youth startup companies are energizing the voting participation campaign in Gwangju. Voting is an opportunity to reaffirm that 'sovereignty belongs to the people of the Republic of Korea, and all power comes from the people.' With a strong commitment to a more robust democracy, we will do our utmost together with the Gwangju community to achieve a record-high voter turnout of 92.5%."

Company representatives said, "Seeing Gwangju bakeries collaborate to launch 'Voting Bread' demonstrated Gwangju's genuine commitment to voting. We pledge that all employees, including company leaders, will vote. We will make June 3 a day of victory for democracy."
