Second Korean Director Appointed at Green Climate Fund: To Oversee Asset and Liability Management

A Korean national has been appointed to a senior position at the Green Climate Fund (GCF), an international organization that supports developing countries in responding to climate change.

On May 19, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that Ko Junhum began his duties as Director-General of the Treasury at the GCF on this day. This marks the second appointment of a Korean director at the GCF, following Kim Hyunjung, who became Director-General of Human Resources and Organizational Culture in October last year.

Director Ko is a financial expert with 27 years of experience at various financial institutions, including Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and as the Korea representative for Barclays. At the GCF, he will oversee the management of the fund's assets and liabilities, including foreign exchange, interest rates, bond issuance, and liquidity management.

Since Mafalda Duarte took office as Executive Director in 2023, the Green Climate Fund has been working to develop various strategies for expanding its financial resources. The Ministry of Economy and Finance assessed that Director Ko's extensive experience in finance was a key factor in his appointment as Director-General of the Treasury at the GCF.

The Ministry stated, "We will continue to support the active participation of Korea's outstanding talents in international organizations by holding job fairs for international financial institutions and promoting cooperation between climate funds and international financial organizations."
