Joo has been recognized for his contributions over the past 25 years to building LG Electronics' world-class intellectual property (IP) portfolio. Since 2020, he has led the company's IP Center, spearheading efforts to strengthen patent competitiveness both domestically and internationally. He has contributed to the growth of the company and the national economy by increasing patent royalty revenues.

Previously, last year, Kim Byunghoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Executive Vice President at LG Electronics, received the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his efforts in advancing national competitiveness through leading research and development in future technologies. LG Electronics stated, "It is significant that our ongoing achievements in world-class research and development (R&D) innovation and patent acquisition have been consecutively recognized as contributing to the enhancement of national technological competitiveness."

As of the end of the first quarter of this year, LG Electronics holds 97,790 registered patents both domestically and internationally. About half of these are standard-essential patents recognized globally. Securing standard-essential patents allows the technology to become an industry standard and enables other companies to develop products based on it, thereby promoting industrial development.

LG Electronics plans to continue generating world-class patent competitiveness not only in its core business areas, but also in a wide range of future technologies such as 6G mobile communications, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing.
