Unique Promotions Reminiscent of "Squid Game"
and Other Creative Campaigns
Seoul's Eunpyeong District is launching a variety of unique and colorful promotional campaigns to encourage residents to exercise their valuable right to vote ahead of the 21st presidential election, which will be held on June 3 next month.
This campaign is comprehensively structured, ranging from entertaining and unconventional promotions to practical, everyday guidance, with the goals of increasing voter turnout and spreading a culture of democratic participation. The district plans to improve voter awareness in a way that is easy to understand and relatable for everyone by conducting customized campaigns aimed at all generations.
Until May 30, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. during morning commuting hours, the district will conduct a street campaign at major subway stations within its jurisdiction, including Nokbeon Station, Bulgwang Station, and Yeonsinnae Station. The campaign will feature costumes and business cards reminiscent of the Netflix drama "Squid Game." By introducing these eye-catching promotions during familiar commutes, the district aims to convey the importance and convenience of early voting in an engaging manner.
Additionally, the district will carry out tailored promotions for "first-time voters" exercising their voting rights for the first time. Banners will be installed at 18 local high schools and for new university students, and the youth council will operate a "voting participation campaign" to highlight the significance of casting a first ballot.
Beyond these efforts, the district is actively encouraging voter participation through a range of everyday promotional activities, including administrative phone call connection tones, media board broadcasts and announcements in elevators at 1,171 apartment complexes, printed messages at the bottom of receipts from cultural facilities, early voting guidance for overseas travelers, posters on village buses, and banners and promotional signs at key facilities.
Kim Mikyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, stated, "Voting is the most powerful way for us to change our own future," adding, "We will take the lead in spreading a culture of voting by promoting fun and practical campaigns that make it easy for every generation to participate."
