Sunmoon University Selected for 11 Chungnam-type RISE Projects, Secures 9.2 Billion KRW

On May 19, Sunmoon University announced that all 11 of its proposed projects were selected for the Chungnam-type Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) initiative, securing 9.2 billion KRW in national funding.

RISE, which will be fully implemented starting this year, is a system in which local governments lead half of the financial support, fostering universities as innovation hubs based on regional characteristics and strategies.

The core project is the operation of a "Chungnam-type Contract Department." Sunmoon University recently signed an agreement with Volvo Trucks Korea and decided to establish a new department starting in the 2026 academic year.

The contract department is an early employment-linked curriculum designed to allow students to gain hands-on experience at corporate sites while attending university. Students will receive on-site training at business locations nationwide starting from their second year, and will obtain a bachelor's degree after completing their third year.

In the mobility sector, Sunmoon University will participate as the lead university for RISE, operating joint curricula based on the demand of the automobile parts industry in the Cheonan and Asan regions.

In addition, the university will also pursue the training of practice-oriented talent linked to the semiconductor strategic industry, the operation of a Korean language education center for foreign residents, and the creation of jobs linked to multicultural families.

President Moon Sungje stated, "We are setting an example of a university that grows together with the region, focusing on Chungcheongnam-do's key industries of semiconductors and mobility," and added, "We will continue to drive innovation that can be felt by the local community and industry."
