Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on May 19 that it is currently promoting a maintenance project to replace building number plates that have been in use for more than 10 years within its jurisdiction free of charge.

Building number plates that have been used for a long time often have faded or erased lettering, making it difficult for courier or delivery services, as well as for rescue agencies to quickly identify locations in emergency situations.

The county is carrying out this maintenance project to address these inconveniences and to improve both the accessibility and accuracy of administrative services. The project targets facilities where it is difficult to identify the address due to damage to building number plates installed before December 31, 2014.

Based on an on-site survey completed in February, the county has selected the targets and plans to proceed with replacements sequentially. Last year, the county replaced 3,711 building number plates in five areas?Bongsan-myeon, Changpyeong-myeon, Daedeok-myeon, Yong-myeon, and Wolsan-myeon. This year, it plans to replace 3,328 plates, focusing on Damyang-eup.

A county official stated, "By maintaining old number plates that are difficult to identify, we are improving both the convenience of address use for residents and the cityscape," adding, "We will continue to inspect and maintain address information facilities in the future."
