The police are tracking down the person responsible for damaging the campaign poster of Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On May 19, the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul announced that it had launched an investigation after receiving a report that a presidential election poster had been vandalized on a wire fence near the College of Veterinary Medicine at Konkuk University’s Seoul campus in Hwayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu.
According to the Public Official Election Act, anyone who damages election posters or banners without a legitimate reason may be subject to imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.
The poster had been torn in the area of candidate Lee Jaemyung's eyes, but the National Election Commission has since restored it.
The police are pursuing the suspect based on nearby CCTV footage and other evidence.
