Characters from 54 Local Governments and Organizations Nationwide to Participate
"We invite all citizens to the wedding of Gwangju City's promotional character 'Bitdori'."
On May 19, Gwangju City announced that it will hold the '2025 Gwangju Promotion Character Contest' on May 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Garden of Light in front of City Hall, with the event themed around the wedding of Gwangju's representative promotional character 'Bitdori' and his girlfriend 'Bitnayeong'.
This event, held in conjunction with 'Gwangju Citizens' Day', will feature characters from 23 local governments and 31 organizations nationwide attending as guests to celebrate Bitdori's wedding. The festival will combine character-based promotions and citizen participation content in a festive format.
The city planned this event to effectively promote Gwangju through exchanges with characters from across the country in celebration of the '2025 Visit Gwangju Year', and to publicize the outdoor public wedding venue 'Garden of Light' at City Hall.
Representative characters from various cities will participate, including 'Chungjang Festival Friends' from Dong-gu, Gwangju, 'Seohaeon' from Seo-gu, 'Bookke & Bubu' from Buk-gu, 'Haechi' from Seoul, 'Boogi' from Busan, 'Dodalsu' from Daegu, 'Bonggong-i' from Gyeonggi, 'Suwon-i' from Suwon, 'Gomagom' and 'Gongju' from Gongju, and 'Maedol-i' from Gwangyang.
In addition, promotional characters from public institutions such as Gwangju Women's Family Foundation, Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, National Fire Agency, Government Employees Pension Service, Mudeungsan National Park Office, and the Asia Culture Center Foundation will meet with citizens to provide useful daily information and introduce major policies.
Local creative characters introduced by Gwangju-based content companies, such as 'Dooda', 'Magical Girl Didi', and 'Dinoman', will also participate in the event to promote cultural content.
Side events will include a mini sports competition, a policy quiz contest, character promotion booths, and a four-cut photo zone, offering a variety of attractions and activities for citizens to enjoy together.
Park Gwangseok, spokesperson, said, "This event serves as a comprehensive promotional platform that simultaneously showcases Gwangju City's policies, events, and spaces through characters," adding, "We will continue to pursue creative city promotion that communicates with citizens."
Meanwhile, the 'Garden of Light', the public wedding venue at City Hall where Bitdori's wedding will be held, is drawing attention as it is available for use by any citizen without venue rental fees. In April, two couples held their weddings there, with one couple scheduled for May, five couples for September, and two couples for November.
Gwangju's promotional character 'Bitdori' was first created in 2000 and was renewed in August 2023 with a cute and lovable image. Since then, Bitdori has also been active as an online influencer, sharing city news via Instagram.
