Sunchang-gun Fermentation Theme Park Gaining Popularity as an Experiential Attraction

The Only Place in Korea for Traditional Cultural Experiences and Cutting-Edge Play Content

The 'Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park' in North Jeolla Province is emerging as an experiential attraction for family tourists and children.

According to the county on May 19, the Fermentation Theme Park is the only comprehensive fermentation-themed cultural space in Korea, created on a vast site of approximately 445,000 square meters under the theme of 'Fermentation Travel in Sunchang.' It is designed to allow families with children to enjoy educational activities, play, and hands-on experiences.

The Fermentation Theme Park goes beyond being a simple tourist destination, serving as a converged experiential space where education, science, and play are integrated. Every weekend, it is bustling with family visitors from places such as Gwangju and the Seoul metropolitan area.

In fact, the park is so popular that it is called a 'children's paradise,' offering a variety of content that allows children to freely run and play while learning about fermentation culture in an easy and entertaining way.

On the first floor of 'Kongi-gwan,' the indoor sports complex, there are experiential contents based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as fitness, cycling simulation, rock climbing, and DDM, attracting the interest of both children and teenagers.

Among these, the playground in the shape of a traditional jar, designed at children's eye level in 'Kongi-gwan,' and the science experience utilizing the three elements of fermentation (wind, light, and water) are structured to naturally introduce children to fermentation culture.

In addition, the 'Pangi-gwan,' a play experience zone where children can become magicians in the world of microorganisms and imagine the microbial world, and the 'Perennial Plant Garden,' filled with more than 50 kinds of subtropical plants, allow visitors to enjoy relaxation in nature, further solidifying the park's status as a stay-type tourist destination.

In particular, the accommodation and leisure facilities established to promote stay-type tourism at the theme park are also drawing attention. Next month, a large-scale water play facility equipped with a children's pool and water slides is set to open, and the 'Sunway Glamping Site,' which opened in September last year, continues to be so popular that weekend reservations are quickly sold out.

County Governor Choi Youngil said, "The Fermentation Theme Park is the only place in the country where traditional cultural experiences and cutting-edge play content are harmoniously combined. We will continue to expand seasonal programs and tourism infrastructure so that it becomes an attraction that can be enjoyed all year round."
