Imsil County Ranks First in Ministry of Environment's 'Environmental Management Assessment'

Imsil County in North Jeolla Province has been selected as the top local government in the '2025 Local Government Environmental Management Assessment' organized by the Ministry of Environment.


According to the county on May 19, the Ministry of Environment conducts the Environmental Management Assessment to inspect the environmental management status of emission facilities overseen by local governments, encourage voluntary environmental management by these facilities, and strengthen their capabilities.

This year’s assessment reviewed the environmental management performance of a total of 245 institutions, including 17 metropolitan cities and provinces and 228 cities, counties, and districts. The assessment evaluated the inspection rate, violation rate, and pollution inspection rate of facilities emitting environmental pollutants.


Imsil County achieved the distinction of being selected as an outstanding local government nationwide and also ranked first in North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province. Last year, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, the county conducted inspections of businesses emitting air and wastewater pollutants. As a result, it took 14 administrative actions, including 4 criminal complaints, 8 closures by administrative order, and 2 business suspensions for violations.


Additionally, the county focused on enhancing business management capabilities by supporting the replacement of outdated prevention facilities, conducting professional environmental technical diagnostics and consulting for small-scale businesses, and providing training to strengthen the competencies of environmental technicians.


County Governor Shim Min stated, "We will take the lead in realizing a clean Imsil by thoroughly managing businesses that emit environmental pollutants, so that residents can live in a pleasant natural environment."
