This pest control initiative has been scheduled earlier than usual in order to proactively respond to the earlier onset of mosquito activity caused by climate change. The city has also been carrying out year-round larval control from the thawing season through winter to reduce the mosquito population in advance.
Additionally, the city plans to monitor mosquito activity using daily mosquito surveillance devices (DMS) installed in parks and densely populated residential areas, and will implement tailored, evidence-based pest control measures suitable for mosquito habitats, residential areas, and vulnerable locations from this month through October.
For environmentally friendly pest control, the public health center will use "U grade" chemicals, which are classified as the lowest toxicity level by the WHO, and will primarily utilize "ultra-low volume (ULV) fogging" methods that do not produce smoke instead of the traditional "thermal fogging" method. In rural towns, livestock farms, grassy areas, and urban sewers, both thermal fogging and spraying methods will be used in parallel.
