Humanoid Robot "AMECA" to Be Unveiled for the First Time in Korea
International AI Exhibition "MARS 2025" to Open on June 18 at COEX
Over 50 Companies and Organizations to Participate
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province will unveil the humanoid robot "AMECA" for the first time in Korea at the artificial intelligence (AI) exhibition "MARS 2025," which will be held on June 18 in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

Hwaseong City announced on May 19 that it plans to showcase "AMECA," developed by the UK-based robotics company Engineered Arts, at the "MARS 2025" event.
AMECA, which was first unveiled at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022, is a robot equipped with facial recognition technology and a precision motor system, enabling it to express delicate facial expressions and emotions like a real person. At the time, it was praised as "the most human-like robot" due to its natural interactions with visitors. This robot is capable of spontaneous conversations with humans, expressing emotions, and even demonstrating a sense of humor.
The city reportedly made significant efforts from the early planning stages to secure AMECA, working closely and negotiating with the company. A city official explained, "By presenting the purpose of the event and the city's vision as a future AI city, and by continuously persuading the company, we were able to secure their participation."
During the event, AMECA will interact directly with visitors through exhibition programs and experience booths, demonstrating the current level of AI technology implementation. Visitors will be able to converse with AMECA and experience the evolution of AI firsthand.
"MARS 2025," which will be held over three days from June 18 to 20, is a large-scale international event organized by Hwaseong City to present solutions for urban challenges and improve citizens' quality of life through AI technology.
This exhibition, held under the theme "Urban AI, Hwaseong Special City," will consist of five areas: ▲URBAN AI ▲Global AI ▲Robotics ▲Startup ▲Industry-Academia Cooperation. Each booth will offer hands-on, experience-based content focusing on technology demonstrations and practical activities. In addition, various programs such as the ▲MARS 2025 Forum ▲AI Talk Concert in MARS ▲MARS 2025 Conference ▲AI Industry Technology Seminar will provide opportunities for participants to network and collaborate.
More than 50 domestic and international organizations and companies, including Amazon, Hyundai Motor, Kia, Shinsegae, LG U+, and Kyung Hee University, will participate in the event, with approximately 100 exhibition booths in operation.
Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "Introducing the world-renowned humanoid robot AMECA in Korea for the first time is a symbolic achievement that demonstrates our city is planning and leading the AI era," adding, "We will present a stage that brings together the city's efforts and capabilities so that visitors can experience the advancement of AI technology."
