Busan Extends Gwangan Bridge Morning Toll Discount by One Hour for Commuters

All Vehicles Except Compact Cars Eligible for Discount Starting on the 26th

The period during which toll discounts apply on the Gwangan Bridge will be extended.

The Busan Metropolitan Government announced that, starting May 26, the morning toll discount period for the Gwangan Bridge will be extended by one hour to 6 a.m. Previously, the discount was available on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The city is implementing this measure to reduce inconvenience caused by the difference between the actual commuting hours of citizens, such as early-morning workers, and the discount period. With this change, vehicles crossing the Gwangan Bridge on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. will automatically receive the discounted rate. No prior registration is required.

The Gwangan Bridge toll is 500 won for compact cars, 1,000 won for small vehicles, and 1,500 won for large and special vehicles. During commuting hours, small vehicles are charged 500 won, and large and special vehicles are charged 800 won. The toll for compact cars remains the same at all times.

Busan has offered a 20% discount on Gwangan Bridge tolls during commuting hours since August 2009 and increased the discount rate to 50% in 2018.

Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, said, "We hope that this change will further improve commuting convenience for early-morning workers in line with the trend toward more flexible working hours," adding, "We will continue to work to reduce the financial burden on citizens and create a safer and more convenient transportation environment."
