Mayor Shin Sangjin: "City Funds Urgently Allocated for Projects Cut from National and Provincial Budgets"
Focus on Solving Long-Standing Community Issues, Youth Policies, and Expanding Sports Infrastructure for Daily Life
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 19 that it has submitted a supplementary budget proposal for the second time this year, increasing the budget by 283.4 billion won. As a result, the total budget for Seongnam City will rise by 7.2%, from the previous 3.9262 trillion won to 4.2096 trillion won.
This supplementary budget proposal focuses on addressing long-standing community projects, expanding the welfare safety net, strengthening support for young people, and enhancing sports infrastructure for daily life.
Major projects include 3.7 billion won for the construction of a roof over the gateball court, 290 million won for installing screen park golf facilities at the senior welfare centers in Sujeong, Jungwon, and Bundang districts, 3.3 billion won for the construction of Hwangsaeul Sports Park, and 1.5 billion won for improvements to sports facilities for daily life, such as replacing lighting and upgrading baseball and tennis facilities.
In addition, after national and provincial welfare budgets were cut, the city urgently allocated its own funds to ensure the continued operation of 10 key projects, including the Safe Companion Call Car, elementary after-school care centers, character education, support for elderly drivers returning their licenses, iron supplement support for pregnant women, atopy prevention, and dementia safety centers.
Support for housing stability among young people will also be expanded. A total of 2.07 billion won has been allocated to the "Employment Youth Jeonse and Moving Expense Support Project," which will help reduce the real burden by providing brokerage and moving expense support (400,000 won), interest on jeonse loans, and monthly rent support (up to 200,000 won and up to 10 months, respectively).
Additionally, fire prevention will be strengthened by providing free fire extinguishers to 6,196 food hygiene businesses, and public design and flower planting projects will be carried out to improve the environment in key areas such as Seongnam High-Tech Valley and Seohyeon Station.
Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "This supplementary budget proposal is focused on projects that will bring tangible improvements to citizens' daily lives and address pressing livelihood issues. Although the environment is challenging both internally and externally, we will do our best to create a better Seongnam City through close cooperation with the city council."
