"Recycle Used Parts and Get Discounts"... LG Electronics Launches "Battery Turn" Initiative

Vacuum Cleaner Parts Recycling Campaign Launched
Robot Vacuum Cleaner Lineup Added This Year
Up to 45,000 Won Discount on Batteries and More

LG Electronics is launching the "Battery Turn" initiative to collect and recycle used vacuum cleaner parts.

On May 19, LG Electronics announced that it will conduct the Battery Turn resource circulation campaign for used vacuum cleaner parts in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Korea Environment Corporation, and E-Circulation Governance until June 30. This campaign collects batteries and suction port plastics from LG Electronics vacuum cleaners to recover waste resources such as rare metals and plastics. Customers who participate receive discounts when purchasing new parts, encouraging them to take part in resource circulation.

Since 2022, LG Electronics has conducted the "Battery Turn" campaign annually. This year, the company is expanding the range of eligible products and parts. Robot vacuum cleaners have been added to the list of products from which used batteries can be collected, and for cordless vacuum cleaners, customers can now also return suction port plastics. This is part of LG Electronics' efforts to help build a plastic recycling ecosystem.

LG Electronics explained that this expansion is based on its own customer research, which found that batteries and suction port plastics are the most frequently replaced parts by cordless vacuum cleaner users. The company expects this will help raise awareness of this year's World Environment Day theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution," and provide customers with an opportunity to practice plastic recycling.

Customers who wish to participate in the campaign can return used vacuum cleaner parts at any LG Electronics service center nationwide. After returning the used parts, customers can receive a discount of up to 45,000 won on batteries and up to 51,000 won on suction ports when purchasing new LG Electronics vacuum cleaner parts.

Customers who are unable to visit a service center can apply through the online brand shop and return used parts at a nearby waste appliance collection box. The locations of these collection boxes can be found on the "Resource Circulation Practice Platform." In this case, customers can also purchase batteries and suction ports at discounted prices through the LG Electronics online brand shop.

Over the three years since 2022, a cumulative total of approximately 116,000 customers have participated in LG Electronics' "Battery Turn" campaign. The total weight of collected used batteries exceeds 90.1 tons, with more than 200,000 units collected. More than 8.2 tons of rare metals have been extracted through this initiative.

Jung Kiuk, head of LG Electronics' vacuum cleaner business, said, "We have expanded the range of eligible products and parts this year to express our gratitude to the many customers who have participated in the resource circulation campaign over the past three years." He added, "We will continue to carry out various activities so that customers can join the resource circulation campaign and put our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) vision of 'A Better Life for All' into practice."
