Guro District (District Mayor Jang Inhong) will host the 7th Intercultural Festival on May 24 at Sindorim Opera House and the surrounding Sindorim Techno Neighborhood Park area.
This festival, organized and hosted by the Guro District Family Center, will be held in celebration of the 18th World Day for Cultural Diversity. Under the theme "Guro Shining with Diversity, Creating the Future Together," it is expected to serve as a venue for communication and cultural exchange among residents of various nationalities, both Korean and foreign.
The main stage at Sindorim Opera House will open the Intercultural Festival at 1:00 p.m. with a pre-event performance by the Gugudan Choir.
Following this, there will be an opening address by Jung Jongun, head of the Guro District Family Center, congratulatory remarks from distinguished guests, and an award ceremony recognizing exemplary Korean and foreign residents and organizations. In addition, the audience will be treated to a unique performance by Lastreet Crew, which combines Korean traditional music and b-boying.
Throughout Techno Neighborhood Park near the Opera House, a variety of experience booths will be set up, including traditional games from around the world, food trucks, and photo zones. Programs such as trying on traditional costumes and playing musical instruments from different countries, an AI photo studio, global citizenship education experiences, and making traditional toys from various countries will be available for both children and adults to enjoy together.
In particular, at the Intercultural Playground, visitors can experience traditional games from around the world (such as Dutch Sjoelen, Indian Carrom, and Japanese Daruma Otoshi) and Korean traditional games (such as Yutnori, cooperative games, and street parades). There will also be woodworking experiences, learning greetings in different languages, and urban camping experiences, providing opportunities to experience the values of cultural diversity and inclusion.
Jang Inhong, Mayor of Guro District, said, "Through this festival, we hope to showcase the unique characteristics of Guro District, where diverse cultures coexist, and to create an opportunity for Korean and foreign residents to foster an atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect."
