Gyeonggi Fire Department to Inspect Safety at 164 Logistics Warehouses in Province

The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is launching an emergency safety inspection of 164 warehouses in the province following the recent logistics center fire in Icheon.

On May 18, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that from May 19 to July 31, it will conduct emergency inspections of 164 out of 1,018 logistics warehouses in the province. These 164 sites have a total floor area of over 30,000 square meters and have been designated as key facilities for fire safety management.

The main inspection items include the handling status of hazardous materials such as batteries, fireworks, and other dangerous goods, as well as the maintenance and management of fire safety facilities. If any violations are found, immediate corrective action will be taken or the relevant authorities will be notified.

Additionally, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters plans to strengthen cooperation among fire stations, local governments, and companies by holding meetings with stakeholders from large logistics warehouses and related organizations.

Furthermore, to enhance on-site response capabilities, non-face-to-face virtual adaptation drills will be conducted. Using satellite maps, the fire department will pre-identify fire truck access routes and the locations of key departments, regularly update on-site information, and establish a response system that closely simulates real situations.

Kim Jaebyung, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "A fire at a large logistics warehouse can cause enormous damage even with a single mistake, so it is crucial to thoroughly eliminate risk factors in advance." He added, "We will establish a multi-layered and proactive safety management system so that residents can feel secure."

This emergency inspection was ordered by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon. Governor Kim Dongyeon requested on May 13, in relation to the logistics center fire in Bubal-eup, Icheon, that the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters prepare proactive safety measures to ensure residents' peace of mind.

Meanwhile, in the past five years, there have been a total of 81 logistics warehouse fires in the province, resulting in 73 casualties.
