Now in its third year, the Y Education Expo was held under the theme "Green Schooling: The Earth Becomes a Textbook," presenting a future-oriented education model to address the climate crisis era. By proposing an education paradigm focused on nature and the environment, the event established itself as a hands-on environmental education platform that goes beyond the classroom. With support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Korea Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), and the Ministry of Education, the event's credibility and stature were further elevated.
At the venue, a large LED globe measuring 3 meters in diameter and 3.5 meters in height visually conveyed the seriousness of climate change. The "Green Schooling Experience Zone," decorated with eco-friendly wood and paper, offered a variety of programs such as Earth Keeper pledges and climate change experiences. Zones for experiencing future technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and virtual reality (VR), as well as a creative math experience zone, also received enthusiastic responses from family visitors.
The "Y Education Forum," co-hosted with EBS, featured renowned scholars such as Professor Choi Jaecheon, who discussed the future of environmental education. Well-known speakers, including science communicator Gwedo, actor Kim Seokhun, and education creator Mimiminu, delivered lectures that inspired attendees. At the Career and College Expo, 30 high schools from across the country and overseas university campuses participated, providing information on admissions and career paths.
In particular, three competitions?mathematical structures, ChatGPT English speech, and drone soccer?drew passionate participation from youth nationwide. Programs spanning all generations, such as the lifelong learning festival, senior writing contest, and Sebasi lecture series, also enjoyed great popularity.
Yangcheon District Mayor Ki Jae Lee stated, "Through this expo, I hope that the meaning of 'Green Schooling' in the era of climate crisis will not remain just an event, but will influence the entire field of education," adding, "Y Education Expo will continue to develop each year with new themes and content that reflect the trends and demands of the times."
Since launching the nation's first local government-led education expo in 2023, Yangcheon District has recorded a cumulative total of about 150,000 visitors through this year, establishing itself as Korea's leading future education expo.
