Gwanak District to Fully Support Costs for Korea-China Overseas Youth Cultural Exchange Program

Gwanak District (District Mayor Park Junhee) is recruiting local middle school students to participate in the "2025 Overseas Youth Cultural Exchange Program," which will be conducted in partnership with its sister city, Hohhot in China.

Since signing a sister city agreement with Hohhot in 2012, the district has successfully carried out a total of six youth cultural exchange programs to date.

This year, to foster a global mindset and strengthen international communication skills among the next generation, the district has prepared a range of programs that allow students to experience Chinese history, culture, and nature, including a tour of Yili Group, the largest dairy company in China, and an exploration of Xilamuren Grassland.

The program will take place in Hohhot, China, for six days and five nights from August 1 to August 6. Prior to this, from July 21 to July 25, youth from Hohhot will visit Korea and participate in cultural exchange activities with Gwanak District students, strengthening mutual friendship.

The program is open to middle school students residing in the district. A total of eight participants will be selected through a two-stage process: a first-round document screening and a second-round interview. Four students will be chosen from general households and four from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

The district will cover all expenses required for the program, including airfare, insurance, and accommodation costs.

Applications will be accepted until May 30. Interested students can apply by visiting the Administrative Support Division on the 5th floor of Gwanak District Office or by sending an email.

District Mayor Park Junhee stated, "I hope this youth cultural exchange program will provide a valuable opportunity for students to interact with peers from various countries, broaden their understanding of cultural diversity, and develop international sensitivity. As the future leaders, we will continue to actively discover and support opportunities to strengthen the global competencies of our youth so that they can grow into talents who lead the world."
