"Let's Drive Out the Homeroom Teacher"... Elementary Students Form 'Ai Hyeoksindang' to Oust Teacher

Dividing Roles to Provoke and Record Teacher, Leading to False Child Abuse Accusation
Ultimately Transferred to Another School... Main Student Suspended for Six Days

A story has emerged about an elementary school student who formed a private group called 'Ai Hyeoksindang,' disrupted classes, and repeatedly used severe profanity, ultimately driving out the homeroom teacher.

"Let's Drive Out the Homeroom Teacher"... Elementary Students Form 'Ai Hyeoksindang' to Oust Teacher

On May 15, JTBC's 'Case Chief' reported that Teacher A, who has 37 years of teaching experience, was assigned as a sixth-grade homeroom teacher at an elementary school in March last year and experienced a shocking incident. In A's class, there was a student B, known as an 'Iljin' (a term for a school bully). B took the lead in shaping the class atmosphere, disrupted lessons, and hurled harsh profanity. During class, B shouted things like "I am a pro-Japanese collaborator" and "I want to become a gangster when I grow up," and even made obscene gestures toward the teacher.

Teacher A said, "It seemed like he found it amusing to give teachers a hard time," and added, "Even so, I wanted to help him change." However, A also recounted, "B even told me, 'I'll stab you with a weapon.'" Teacher A requested a meeting with B's parents at the time, but due to scheduling conflicts, the meeting never took place.

B's problematic behavior grew increasingly severe. When Teacher A pointed out his misconduct, B formed a group called 'Ai Hyeoksindang' and devised a plan to drive A out. The students in this group divided up roles and carried out their plan. Teacher A explained, "One student was assigned to 'make the teacher angry,' another to 'record the teacher's words,' and so on. They conspired to expel me." A further stated, "Students who joined the group spread false rumors, and those who did not cooperate were ostracized or bullied."

Furthermore, on April 19 last year, Teacher A was reported for child abuse by the parent of a student who belonged to 'Ai Hyeoksindang.' The alleged acts of abuse included: ▲ throwing a morality textbook on the floor during class, ▲ pushing over chairs to trip students who were late to class, ▲ hitting a student’s chin with a microphone, and ▲ repeating profanity after a student swore.

Regarding these allegations, Teacher A explained, "I dropped the morality textbook on the floor to get the attention of students who kept laughing and chatting," and added, "I never touched a student with the microphone. There was no class that day. I only warned a student who wrote profanity in an assignment to correct it with another word." In reality, after a police investigation, the case was closed with no charges filed, and in December last year, the prosecution also dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence.

Subsequently, the local Teacher Rights Protection Committee transferred Teacher A to another school in September last year. Teacher A said, "I have never received an apology from the parent or student who filed the false complaint," and added, "These days, there is a self-mocking saying among teachers: 'Let's teach with our eyes half-closed.' It means that if you open your eyes wide and point out a student's wrongdoing, you might be reported for child abuse." Teacher A emphasized, "I sincerely hope that junior teachers will be able to teach in a better environment."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that some students in the class who took the lead in disrupting lessons or actively participated in spreading false rumors were subject to suspension and special education measures.
