A group accused of attempting to extort money from Son Heungmin (33, Tottenham Hotspur), captain of the national soccer team, by claiming that one of them was pregnant with his child, appeared in court for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing).
On the afternoon of the 17th, Judge Yoon Wonmook of the Seoul Central District Court held a warrant hearing for Yang, a woman in her 20s charged with extortion, and Yoon, a man in his 40s charged with attempted extortion.
Yang, who arrived at the court at 1:44 p.m. wearing a tracksuit and bound with a rope, remained silent in response to reporters' questions such as "Do you admit to the extortion charges?", "Do you still claim to be pregnant with Son's child?", and "Do you have anything to say to Son?"
Yoon also entered the court without answering questions such as "Why did you demand an additional tens of millions of won?" and "Did you and Yang conspire in the threats?"
Yang is accused of extorting over 300 million won by sending a fetal ultrasound photo in June last year and threatening to reveal the pregnancy. It is reported that Yang wrote a memorandum stating that she would not disclose the pregnancy to the public.
Yoon is accused of attempting to obtain 70 million won from Son's side in March this year but failed. It is reported that he learned about the extortion after starting a relationship with Yang and then committed the crime.
The Gangnam Police Station, which received Son's complaint on the 7th, arrested the suspects and applied for arrest warrants. The police are currently investigating the authenticity of the ultrasound photo and other facts based on the suspects' mobile phones and other items seized immediately after the arrest.
