Gwangju City to Broadcast "45th Anniversary 5.18 Memorial Ceremony" Live on LED Billboards 5.18 Democratization Movement Memorial Ceremony Poster.

On May 16, the Gwangju city government announced that it will broadcast the "45th Anniversary 5.18 Democratization Movement Government Memorial Ceremony," which will be held at 10 a.m. on May 18 at the National 5.18 Democratic Cemetery, in real time via its municipal promotional LED billboards.

The live broadcast of the 5.18 Memorial Ceremony is designed to allow citizens and visitors who are unable to attend in person to participate in the event. The municipal promotional LED billboards are installed at three locations: the Punggeum Intersection at the Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu; the Gyesu Intersection where Bitgoeul-daero and Mujin-daero meet in Seo-gu; and the Citizen Communication Space at Nongseong Station on the Gwangju Metro.

Since May 1, the city has also been running content on the billboards introducing major events during the May Week, such as the "2025 World Human Rights Cities Forum," the March for Democratic Peace, the 5.18 Eve Festival, the 5.18 Memorial Ceremony, and the Bell of Democracy Ringing Ceremony, each for 518 seconds. Last year, the city also strengthened the public communication function of the billboards by broadcasting real-time footage of Dokdo on "Dokdo Day" (October 25) through the municipal promotional billboards.

Park Gwangseok, spokesperson for the city, said, "We hope that this year's live broadcast of the 5.18 Memorial Ceremony will help establish the billboards as a communication channel shared with citizens," and added, "We will continue to develop a variety of citizen participation content to further enhance the use of the billboards."
