Three Sex Offenders Executed After Approval from Supreme People's Court of China
China has executed three individuals convicted of sexually assaulting minors.
According to state-run China Central Television (CCTV) on May 16, Chinese authorities carried out the executions of Zhao, Wang, and Chen after receiving approval from the Supreme People's Court of China.
Zhao worked as a teacher at an illegal educational facility from April 2018 to March 2019. Together with other staff members, he physically assaulted, verbally abused, subjected to corporal punishment, forced labor, and detained dozens of underage students. He used these acts of abuse and confinement to psychologically control the students. Additionally, he was found to have raped eight female students through coercion, enticement, and filming.
Wang posed as a director recruiting actors online from September 2019 to May 2022, luring nine minors and then sexually assaulting them. CCTV also reported that he was accused of molesting ten other girls and one boy.
Chen was brought to trial on charges of sexually assaulting some victims among more than 20 middle school students he had recruited into a messenger group between January and April 2022, using deception or threats. He was sentenced to death in both the first and second trials.
The head of the Criminal Division No. 1 of the Supreme People's Court of China stated that the executions serve as a message to society that those who violate the rights and interests of children will be severely punished. The official added that as the economy and society develop, the methods of sexual crimes against minors are becoming more sophisticated and diverse. He emphasized the need to strengthen supervision of institutions such as those providing education and training to minors, and to urge relevant organizations to effectively fulfill their primary responsibilities.
