Hanwha Ocean entered the U.S. shipbuilding market by acquiring Philly Shipyard in December of last year, and in August of last year, it became the first Korean shipbuilder to win a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract for the U.S. Navy's logistics support ship "USNS Wally Schirra," which was delivered in March. During the maintenance process, additional requirements were identified, leading to a revised contract.

In addition, Hanwha Ocean is in the process of investing to secure a 19.9% stake in Austal, an Australian shipbuilding company, in order to expand its production base in the United States. Austal owns shipbuilding facilities in Mobile, Alabama, San Diego, California, and other locations in the United States.
