On May 16, Wuyishan, a renowned tourist destination in Fujian Province, China, held a large-scale integrated promotional event in Seoul under the theme "Wuyishan Embracing Scenery - The Fragrance of Nature, Culture, and Tea," encompassing both tea culture and tourism.
During the event, representatives from Wuyishan announced, "Wuyishan International Airport is currently designated as a visa-free transit entry and exit port, allowing Korean tourists to enter visa-free for up to 30 days." They added, "We are actively working to establish a direct flight route connecting Seoul and Wuyishan in the future."
Located in the northwestern part of Fujian Province, Wuyishan is a scenic area designated as a national park and is the only region in China that holds both UNESCO World Natural Heritage and World Cultural Heritage status. In particular, it is widely recognized as the birthplace of traditional Chinese tea culture and is known as the 'hometown of tea art.'
This promotional event was organized to explore cultural similarities between the two countries, expand cooperation, and enhance friendship among the people of both nations. The program was designed to deepen cultural exchange between Korea and China by using natural landscapes as a medium and Neo-Confucianism as a cultural bridge.

In particular, at the event, Wuyishan authorities introduced various policies prepared to facilitate the visits of foreign tourists. Until June 30, 2025, admission fees to all tourist sites in Wuyishan will be waived for both domestic and international visitors, and city buses in Wuyishan will be available free of charge to both residents and tourists. During public holidays, the Wuyishan light rail will also operate completely free of charge.
Currently, Korea has established itself as one of the core markets for Wuyishan tourism. Wuyishan City has actively worked to improve the tourism environment for Korean visitors by developing customized travel courses, localizing tourist information signs in Korean, securing professional guides who can speak Korean, and selecting accommodations and restaurants preferred by Korean tourists.
In addition, the Seoul promotional event featured a photo exhibition showcasing the scenic beauty of Wuyishan, demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage, and a variety of tea culture experiences. Visitors were able to directly experience the unique natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Wuyishan.
Furthermore, the event included a tea ceremony demonstration with tea experts from both Korea and China, as well as academic exchange sessions with scholars specializing in Neo-Confucianism. Through these activities, participants were able to experience the depth of Wuyishan's culture and directly engage with the Neo-Confucian values of "etiquette and dignity" through the process of brewing and savoring tea.
An event organizer stated, "Neo-Confucianism and tea culture, which represent the traditional culture of Wuyishan, have received significant academic and cultural interest in Korea and have become core content for cultural exchange between the two countries during this event." The organizer added, "We will continue to offer experiential programs like this so that Korean people can gain a deeper understanding of Wuyishan's tea and Neo-Confucian cultures, and discover the true value of Wuyishan's world-class natural scenery and intangible cultural heritage."
