On May 15, the Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that Carolina Darias San Sebastian, the mayor of Las Palmas, Spain, visited BPA to review the current operations of Busan Port and discuss possible avenues for cooperation between the two ports.
This visit was organized as part of the "Invitation Program for Distinguished Overseas Figures" promoted by the Korea Foundation (KF) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. BPA exchanged views with the mayor of Las Palmas on port operations, as well as eco-friendly and smart port policies.
On this day, Mayor Darias toured major facilities of Busan Port aboard a port guide vessel and expressed keen interest in the port's operational system and efforts toward eco-friendly transformation.
Las Palmas Port is regarded as a key maritime logistics hub connecting Europe, Africa, and South America, thanks to its strategic location near the African continent. Since the 1960s, it has served as an advance base for Korean deep-sea fishing vessels entering Atlantic fishing grounds.
A BPA official stated, "We hope that this exchange will serve as an opportunity to expand cooperation between the two ports."
