Dobong-gu Selected as Outstanding Institution for National Immunization by Ministry of Health and Welfare

In 2024, Dobong-gu in Seoul (headed by Mayor Oh Unseok) achieved the highest influenza vaccination rate among seniors in Seoul, ranked second in HPV vaccination rates for 12-year-olds, and placed third in childhood vaccination rates in the city. This single district accomplished all of these feats.

As a result of these achievements, the district was selected as an 'Outstanding Institution for National Immunization in 2025' by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

Dobong-gu was the only district in Seoul to be selected as an outstanding institution this year, and on April 23, the district received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare as the representative of Seoul at the International Symposium commemorating World Immunization Week.

The district has achieved high vaccination rates by managing immunization programs tailored to each target group. It consistently ranks among the top in most vaccination rate categories.

Among these, the senior influenza vaccination rate is the highest in Seoul. This was achieved even though the proportion of residents aged 65 and older is the second highest in the city.

The district has maintained its number one position in Seoul for five consecutive years.

This year, the district is making efforts to increase the shingles vaccination rate among seniors. Shingles is a disease that causes severe pain and can lead to serious aftereffects.

Starting this year, the district is providing free shingles vaccinations to residents aged 65 and older. Only four districts in Seoul, including Dobong-gu, offer free shingles vaccinations to seniors in this age group.

Oh Unseok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, "Being selected as an outstanding institution for national immunization was made possible by the active participation of our residents and the dedication of our staff in the field of public health. Moving forward, we will continue to implement customized immunization programs tailored to each age group and target population, so that all residents can enjoy a safe and healthy life."
