SKT to Launch "Visiting USIM Service" for Remote Area Customers on May 19

Cumulative Number of USIM Replacements Reaches 1.87 Million

SKT to Launch "Visiting USIM Service" for Remote Area Customers on May 19 Yonhap News

SK Telecom plans to launch a "visiting service" aimed at improving telecommunications accessibility for customers in remote and isolated areas, starting on May 19. According to SKT's daily briefing on May 16, the service will begin as soon as preparations such as staff training are completed. The company intends to first roll out the service in outlying regions without T World stores and then gradually expand coverage to additional areas.

This service will support functions such as USIM reconfiguration, USIM replacement, and smartphone malware removal. Notably, SKT is working to improve the current USIM reconfiguration process, which requires advance reservations and store visits, by developing a system that will allow subscribers to reconfigure their USIMs themselves simply by scanning a QR code. However, since errors can occur during the reconfiguration process, visiting a store may still be necessary in some cases.

On May 15, 90,000 people completed USIM replacements. The cumulative number of USIM replacement subscribers has reached 1.87 million, while the number of reservation subscribers who have applied for but not yet completed the replacement is 6.92 million. SKT plans to supply 10 million USIMs by next month and expects an additional 4.5 to 5 million USIMs to be delivered in July.
