Gyeonggi Office of Education to Train Teachers for AI-Based Essay and Short-Answer Assessments

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is launching a program to train teachers in AI-based essay and short-answer assessments.

On May 16, the office announced that it would operate a training program for leading teachers, targeting about 100 teachers who have participated in the pilot operation research group for AI essay and short-answer assessments since March.

The training program for leading teachers is structured to focus on building an essay and short-answer assessment system based on the International Baccalaureate (IB), carrying out research projects for developing assessment tools, and strengthening teachers' practical implementation capabilities.

The IB is an internationally accredited school education program developed and operated by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), a non-profit educational foundation headquartered in Switzerland. It is an educational system that pursues self-directed growth of learners.

Following the training program for leading teachers, the office will also provide AI essay and short-answer assessment training to 4,000 teachers at general schools this year.

Oh Chansook, Director of the Digital Talent Bureau at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated, "By focusing on strengthening the practical implementation capabilities of frontline teachers, we will be able to create a credible AI-based essay and short-answer assessment model. We will make efforts to ensure the early establishment of AI essay and short-answer assessments with reliability and validity."
